‘Disruption’ under the spotlight at 60th CGF Global Summit

The leaders of the world’s top fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies convened in Cape Town recently when the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) hosted its 60th annual Global Summit – the first on the continent. The Summit – co-chaired by Pick n Pay chairman Gareth Ackerman and Campbell Soup Company USA CEO Denise Morrison – challenged local and global suppliers and manufacturers in the FMCG sector as the theme of “disruption” was discussed.

Atmosphere was engaged by London-based PR firm Golin to manage local and sub-Saharan media relations before, during and after the Summit. The Atmosphere team also provided ongoing on-site support at the three-day conference, driving the main business objective of the event – increasing CGF membership.

Pepkor chairman Christo Wiese and Coca Cola chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent were among the big names in attendance, offering their business strategies and insights to the more than 800 delegates.  Key topics focused on the CGF’s main pillars used to drive positive change in the industry, including product safety, health and wellness, end-to-end value chain, and standards and sustainability.

Delegates and members of the media were also treated to five-star lunches and cocktail receptions, ending off with a secret dinner hosted by L’Óreal. Invited guests enjoyed a truly African feast at Vergelegen wine estate, with entertainment by Johnny Clegg and Lira.
