Artisanal African talent shines at 7th Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair

Thousands of Joburgers descended on Hyde Park Corner for the seventh annual Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair from 13 – 16 October. Showcasing the best in hand-crafted design combined with the finest artisanal food and wine, a highlight of this year’s Well made in Africa theme was the addition of designers from Rwanda, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Ghana.

Designer Chu Suwannapha brought the theme to life, infusing bold layered patterns with contemporary African design, transforming the rooftop into an expression of African art and the perfect platform to showcase the 120 top caliber brands handpicked by Fair owners and curators, Artlogic.

Pan-African exhibitors A A K S Handcrafted, Milles Collines, Laurenceairlines, Johanna Bramble Créations and Sammy Ethiopia brought a fresh flavour and perspective to this sought after lifestyle event. Visitors were given the chance to peruse and shop handbags produced using the traditional weaving technique of Ghanian women, authentically produced clothing from the Ivory Coast, fashion and accessories infused with international and Rwandan undertones, and high-quality textiles from Senegal and Ethiopia.

Other new additions to the Fair line-up included Time Anchor Distillery, Sugarlicious, Hamethop, Maxhosa by Laduma, Douglas & Co, The Ninevites and Flaunt concepts.
